Academic Make-up:

During your High School career if you fail 1 or more classes there may be a need to make-up that credit in order to be on track for graduation. Below are several different options to receive high school credit. There are pro's and con's of each different method. Please see a counselor to discuss which one is right for you.

Restitution/NG's:

There maybe instances where your child will receive a NG (No Grade) instead of a letter grade (A, B, C,D, F). This is usually because of excessive absences or tardies. The good news is that in most cases the student can overturn the NG and avoid having to earn high school credit through another institution. NG’s must be made up promptly, (the following quarter). The way to turn a NG into a letter grade is by doing Restitution. Restitution begins 1st quarter and the cost is $5.00 for an hour and a half. Restitution schedules are available in the front office.

Night School:

WCSD will hold night school beginning in January of each year and continuing through April. During this period of time 5 sessions will be available for students to register. Each class successfully completed will earn .25 credit towards graduation. You will need to meet with a counselor and obtain a signature prior to enrolling in Night School. The cost per class is $50.00 and Fee waivers do not apply to remediation classes.

BYU Independent Study:

BYU Independent Study offers over 600 University, High School and Personal Enrichment courses to people all throughout the world. BYU is accredited as an institution by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU). The Independent Study High School Program is accredited by the Northwest Association of Accredited Schools (NAAS).

Courses can be taken through a paper/pencil version or online. The student reads the materials, submits their lessons, takes a final exam and finally receives a course grade that can be transferred to the school of their choice. Cost ranges from $42.00 for .50 credit up to $120 for .50 credit.

Summer School:

Soon after school is out, summer school will begin. Summer school begins in June and the last sessions will end in August. Like night school, there are several different times a student can register and after successfully completing the course earn .25 credits towards graduation.  Please contact a counselor for more information.

Electronic High School :

The Electronic High School offers an open-entry / open-exit curriculum based on the Utah Core Curriculum. With a few exceptions, students are able to enroll any day of the year and work at their own pace until the class is completed. EHS classes usually take around 50 hours to complete a quarter credit class, or about 200 hours for a full credit.

Most EHS students take classes to accelerate their graduation from their local high school or to make-up failed quarter classes.

The Electronic High School is accredited by the Northwest Association of Accredited Schools. Students who complete courses from the Electronic High School will have a course completion certificate mailed to their local school of residence with the grade and credit earned.  Click here to learn more about EHS or to enroll.
